Simmer Kaur Speaks Up For Malton in Debate
Sept 11, 2011 – As Election day nears in Ward 5 Mississauga, candidate Simmer Kaur and her team attended the Malton Nagar Kirtan where volunteers helped hand out food, drinks and clean up.

“The Malton Nagar Kirtan is a wonderful community event that Sikhs from all over the GTA come to enjoy with their families,” said Kaur. “As city councilor for Ward 5 I will support such events that encourage family unity and preserve culture. Congratulations to the whole Sikh community as we commemorate Guru Granth Sahib’s first Prakash”
The Kaur team was very large and visible in their bright red ‘Elect Kaur’ shirts. Their samosa and chai stall along Derry Road was a popular stop for the thousands of people in the procession.
“We are getting great support as for the first time in the history of Mississauga there is a real chance to send a member of our community to city hall,” says Kaur.
Kaur credits her hard work during the last municipal election for her strong support in the current by-election. Kaur came in a strong second and received thousands of votes.

Although there are many candidates in the race, polling shows that Kaur has high profile in the ward, high name recognition and strong support of voters.

Sept 5, 2011 – According to an internal poll, Simmer Kaur, Candidate for Ward 5 city councilor is in the top 4 of the 27 candidates running and the only South Asian candidate in the top 5. Kaur is well positioned to be the next city councilor for Ward 5 and the first south asian woman in the history of Mississauga to be on council.

Simmer Kaur Speaks Up For Malton in Debate
Aug 30, 2011 – Simmer Kaur, candidate for Ward 5 city councilor in the Mississauga by-election participated in a lively all candidates’ debate in which she answered questions about transit, air pollution, Malton’s image and more.
21 of the 27 registered candidates participated in the debate and in her closing statement, Kaur noted that she is the only candidate currently running who also ran in the 2010 municipal election. She thanked her supporters who cast thousands of votes in hser favour and led her to a strong second place finish. do to improve air quality, Kaur said “I will work to have more green spaces in our community. Not only will having more parks and planting more trees improve air quality, but families, seniors and young people can spend quality time there.” She said she would ask that all future development and redevelopment give priority to green space, parks and tree planting.

Hundreds Rally for Simmer Kaur in Ward 5 Mississauga – Malik Endorses Kaur
Aug 21, 2011 – More than 400 people came out to support Simmer Kaur, candidate for Ward 5 city council, at her campaign rally and official office opening Sunday afternoon.
